Arsen Shomakhov / Dangerous
May 12, 2007 - 5:56pm — TimC
I receive submissions for airplay consideration a few times a week. I do listen to all of them but the vast majority don't tickle that part of my brain that flags tracks for play on Dreamland Blues.
The one is different.
He covers a wide range of styles including Texas Blues, Rockabilly, Jazz and some of the hottest guitar licks I've heard in quite a while.
I'll be adding several tracks from this outstanding record to the playlist. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Be sure to let me know if do, or even if you don't.

Yes, Arsen sounds great on this CD but he sounds even better live!! I saw him perform at the Arkansas Blues Heritage Festival (formerly King Biscuit Blues Festival) in Helena, Arkansas in October. He played on the "Emerging Artists" stage to an extremely small audience. Blew me away!!! He really deserved to be on the main stage so more folks could have "discovered" him as I did. The bass player and drummer he had with him are not the same artists on the CD, but they played like they had been together for years. I've been telling everybody who will listen...this guy is for REAL!

I was there too!!! - awesome! We are members of a very select (and terribly fortunate) little group, eh, and I am glad to meet you! Nobody can touch this cat, nobody. I agree with you one hundred + percent: his CD is killer, but "live"? I repeat: nobody can touch this cat.
Now here is a sweet piece of news for you: Arsen WON the competition, and will be back playing a set on the Main Stage this October. The AR Blues & Heritage Festival's new website is scheduled be up and running at any moment, and "official" news of Arsen's win will be posted there.
Now this is in Russian (can you translate for me?!), but here is Arsen’s “travelogue” from his trip over, there are some cool pictures in it:

Again – glad to meet you, and I, too, am telling everyone I know to get hip to this cat!
